# How to see what you owe the Finanças

Sign in to the Portal das Finanças and open the list of payments due. Each line is a nota de cobrança (a bill): the tax, the amount, the payment deadline and, when payment is available, a PAGAR (pay) button.

## Step by step

1. Go to [portaldasfinancas.gov.pt](https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt) and sign in with your NIF and password, or with the Chave Móvel Digital.
2. Open the list of payments due, at `sitfiscal.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/inffin/pagamentosDecorrer.html`.
3. Read each line: the tax (IRS, IMI, IUC, coima…), the document id, the amount and the payment deadline (data limite de pagamento).
4. If the line has a PAGAR button, you can pay now by MB WAY. See [how to pay by MB WAY](https://tudocerto.app/en/guides/pay-by-mb-way).
5. Check the [status of your IRS return](https://tudocerto.app/en/guides/irs-return-status) and any payment plans you already have too.

## What each part means

- **Amount (valor)**: what is still owed on that bill.
- **Payment deadline (data limite de pagamento)**: the end of the voluntary payment period. After it, the bill stays owed and late-payment interest (juros de mora) starts to run.
- **Document id**: the bill's number. It is what you need for a [second copy](https://tudocerto.app/en/guides/second-copy).
- **No date**: some bills, such as certain fines, show no deadline.

## An empty list

An empty list means nothing is due right now. The Portal fills the table a few seconds after the page opens, so wait a moment before deciding you owe nothing.

## Faster: scan the whole account at once

[tudo certo.](https://tudocerto.app/en/) is a Chrome extension that scans your Portal das Finanças account and explains it in plain English: every bill with its amount, tax and deadline, where each declaration stands, and the plans you already have. Scanning is free, always. It never sees your password and never submits anything for you.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does it cost anything to see what I owe?

No. The Portal is free, and scanning your account with tudo certo. is free too, always.

### What happens after the payment deadline?

The bill stays owed and late-payment interest (juros de mora) starts to run. If it stays unpaid, the Finanças can move it to execução fiscal (enforced collection), which adds costs.

### Can a fine (coima) go on a payment plan?

No. Fines are always paid in one go.
